One of  the theme’s during Lent is that we are called to forgive others.  I saw an ex brother-in-law at my nephew’s wedding a few weeks ago and it was a very cordial gathering. It is weird how a moment in time many years ago a person can think that “he did quite a few awful things to my sister which in my opinion are unforgivable”.  While married to him and for a long time afterwards he treated my sister horribly.  Extremely awful things happened while they didn’t have a set custody arrangement.  There were certainly things that at the time I didn’t think that I would ever forgive my ex BIL for doing to my sister.

Over the past 15-20 years both my brother-in-law and I have changed. Thankfully he has changed for the better over the last 5 or so years.  At my nephew’s wedding my BIL gave an outstanding, heartfelt speech to his son where he acknowledged that he had made mistakes with how he treated my sister.  His speech was so passionate that I doubt there was a dry eye at the reception. I think that I had forgiven him before the wedding but his speech gave me the nudge to talk to my BIL and tell him that we all make mistakes, that I have made mistakes and that I will always consider him my brother-in-law regardless of he and my sister not being together anymore.

Jesus paid the ultimate price and sacrificed his own life to save us, forgive us for our sins. We are called to forgive, forgive even sins which we think are unforgivable.

This is a bit late but I am wishing everyone a Happy Easter.  I hope all had a blessed and splendid Easter Sunday celebration with family and friends.  Easter was bittersweet for me.  Over the weekend I had a great time with relatives but I am still separated from Kevin. I am more hopeful than before that Kevin and I will be together soon.

Catholics celebrate the Easter Season all the way through Pentecost.  Be joyful! Have faith and hope!  The Lord is risen!! He is alive!!!!

How do each of us keep Jesus Christ alive in our hearts?

There are many ways you can show others that Jesus is alive in our hearts.  One way I do this is when my mother needs help due to her aging and health issues I assist her in whatever she needs.

God Bless.

As we celebrate Holy Thursday there is much symbolization which shows that Jesus wants to purify each one of us. From Jesus’ washing of the disciples feet to the institution of Holy Communion being instituted Jesus wants to cleanse us from the inside out.  He is calling us to purify ourselves, doing this one day at a time. Purify our thoughts and words.  Jesus is calling each of us to be like Him.  Let us pray to Jesus for His guidance and assistance to change our lives, to better ourselves in a Christlike way.  God Bless, Teresa.

The other day my mom said “I hope there is no dust in heaven.”  To that I said, isn’t heaven supposed to be perfect?  How can there be dust in heaven if heaven is perfect?  Plus we don’t know how heaven is physically.  Aren’t we outside of our bodies in heaven?  Aren’t we in heaven in spirit only?  I don’t know.  What are your thoughts on heaven?

Right now due to circumstances I am living with my parents apart from my husband.  I don’t want to be but maybe that is best for me and for us for now.  Kevin and I are rebuilding.  I think it is good that I am able to spend time with my parents, especially my mom since she is having trouble with her health.  This also gives me time to focus on me and I think I need that for now.  It is so hard being apart from Kevin.  Somehow this is part of God’s plan and I am trusting Him but this is so hard.

I have tried to keep up on what happened at the recent Synod on the Family but I need to read up on it a bit.  I am waiting for the English version of the final synod report to be released.

A friend suggested that I read James in the Bible so I have started reading James.  In chapter 1 James talks about having perseverance when going through trials.  Even in trials we are called to trust in God and have faith.  We need to lean on God in these tough times.

I have started my own jewelry shop on Etsy.  I am excited and will be posting more items to sell soon.

Have a blessed Sunday!

Right now I am dealing with life one day at a time.  Trying to figure it out.  Trying to figure out how I go forward, how we go forward.  Talking to God takes quite a bit of effort.  Listening to God is even harder.  Kevin and I are separated not by choice but due to life’s circumstances.  Sickness, unemployment, problems with finances, and eviction.  I never thought this would happen to me.  I now know hard times can fall on anyone.  I so thought life would be different from this.  I know God is *there* but He seems distant.  I know God is watching over us and guiding us.  Even though I know this I doubt.  I ask “How can this be?” “I am going through this crap and He’s letting me go through very hard times.”  Yet I have this feeling that God is in charge and things will be better.  Eventually.  But impatiently I wonder when.  And hope it happens sooner than later.  To help me get through this time I have been praying, reading, and talking to family and friends.  God Bless.

“Once, I had night duty, and I was suffering greatly in spirit because of the painting of the image, and I no longer knew which way to turn because they were constantly trying to convince me that the whole thing was an illusion.  On the other hand, one priest said that perhaps God wanted to be worshiped through this image and therefore I ought to try to get it painted.  Meanwhile, my soul was becoming extremely exhausted.  When I entered the little chapel, I brought my head close to the tabernacle, knocked and said, ‘Jesus look at the great difficulties I am having because of the painting of this image.’  And I heard a voice from the tabernacle, My daughter, your sufferings will not last much longer.

My Thoughts:  Lord Jesus I give you my great difficulties today to do with as you wish.  Mend them.  Don’t mend them.  Show me a different path.  Don’t show me a different way.  Heal me.  Don’t heal me.  Please help me to see how everything I am going through has a purpose and a place in your plan for me.  I ask you to guide me along the correct path.  Amen.

Psalm 87

The Joy of Living in Zion

Of the Korahites. A Psalm. A Song.

On the holy mount stands the city he founded;
    the Lord loves the gates of Zion
    more than all the dwellings of Jacob.
Glorious things are spoken of you,
    O city of God.  Selah

Among those who know me I mention Rahab and Babylon;
    Philistia too, and Tyre, with Ethiopia[a]
    ‘This one was born there,’ they say.

And of Zion it shall be said,
    ‘This one and that one were born in it’;
    for the Most High himself will establish it.
The Lord records, as he registers the peoples,
    ‘This one was born there.’  Selah

Singers and dancers alike say,
    ‘All my springs are in you.’

Psalm 88

Prayer for Help in Despondency

A Song. A Psalm of the Korahites. To the leader: according to Mahalath Leannoth. A Maskil of Heman the Ezrahite.

O Lord, God of my salvation,
    when, at night, I cry out in your presence,
let my prayer come before you;
    incline your ear to my cry.

For my soul is full of troubles,
    and my life draws near to Sheol.
I am counted among those who go down to the Pit;
    I am like those who have no help,
like those forsaken among the dead,
    like the slain that lie in the grave,
like those whom you remember no more,
    for they are cut off from your hand.
You have put me in the depths of the Pit,
    in the regions dark and deep.
Your wrath lies heavy upon me,
    and you overwhelm me with all your waves.  Selah

You have caused my companions to shun me;
    you have made me a thing of horror to them.
I am shut in so that I cannot escape;
    my eye grows dim through sorrow.
Every day I call on you, O Lord;
    I spread out my hands to you.
10 Do you work wonders for the dead?
    Do the shades rise up to praise you?  Selah
11 Is your steadfast love declared in the grave,
    or your faithfulness in Abaddon?
12 Are your wonders known in the darkness,
    or your saving help in the land of forgetfulness?

13 But I, O Lord, cry out to you;
    in the morning my prayer comes before you.
14 O Lord, why do you cast me off?
    Why do you hide your face from me?
15 Wretched and close to death from my youth up,
    I suffer your terrors; I am desperate.[a]
16 Your wrath has swept over me;
    your dread assaults destroy me.
17 They surround me like a flood all day long;
    from all sides they close in on me.
18 You have caused friend and neighbour to shun me;
    my companions are in darkness.

Here are my thoughts after reading and praying:

Yes, the Lord loves me.  I question whether the He loves me.  I am in pain, constantly.  How can a good God allow me to be in such extreme pain?  I think, there must be a purpose, but don’t know what.  in my heart I know that Jesus loves me but my brain questions His love for me.  I am sympathetic to those who wonder how an all good, omniscient, and omnipotent God can allow such horrible tragedies, diseases, disasters, and turmoil in this world?  We need to remember that God does not intervene in persons free will decisions.  In going through my pain I have become closer to Christ.  Are these sufferings a wake up call?  God wants us to be closer to Him but these tragedies are odd ways for that to occur.  Yet we do not understand the ways of the Lord.  The Lord calls us to trust Him.  This is hard when going through tough times.  We are called to have faith that God has a plan for each of us and that He will guide and take us to where we need to be.

Peace

Peace

Thou seek God’s mercy

We ask for forgiveness

Soothing of the soul for thee

We search for meaning

And yearn for peace

Within for eternity

Discerning God’s Will is a mystery

Panging of the heart

Feeling God’s love for thee

Seeking to know God’s Will

Faithfulness listening to God

Brings peace to you and me.

Between my being a bit busy with helping with faith formation and my pain issues I haven’t posted for a while.  Monday and Tuesday faith formation sessions had their last classes for the year.  Plus, the church is getting ready for the white elephant sale and spring-a-rama so there was a lot going on those two days.

I celebrated my birthday on Thursday.  My sister flew in from Texas and we are at our parents place now, and our other sister is coming up later today so I am having a wonderful time.

Thursday May 1 was also the feast day of St. Joseph The Worker and International Workers Day.  Those two celebrations go hand-in-hand.  I wonder if it was more than a coincidence that International Workers Day was chosen to be on May 1.

Pope Francis tweeted a message for those in political positions who can enact legislation which would affect employment, bringing more jobs for the unemployed.

“I ask everyone with political responsibility to remember two things: human dignity and the common good”.

 During a meeting with Italian steelworkers the Pope again echoed the utmost importance of employment saying, “to reaffirm that employment is an essential reality for society, for families and for individuals. Work, in fact, directly regards the person, his/her life, freedom and happiness.”

Pope Francis continued:

“The primary value of employment is the good of the human person,” he said, because it “realizes a person,” intellectually by making demands on his or her attitudes and creative and manual abilities. Employment, then, should not be considered simply as a means for obtaining profit, but above all a purpose that affects man and his dignity. And if there is no work, this dignity is wounded!”

He said: “Anyone who is unemployed or underemployed risks, in fact, being placed on the margins of society, becoming a victim of social exclusion. Many times it happens that people out of work – I think especially of the many unemployed young people today- slip into chronic discouragement or worse, apathy.”

From Catholic Online:

Since Joseph does not appear in Jesus’ public life, at his death, or resurrection, many historians believe Joseph probably had died before Jesus entered public ministry.

Joseph is the patron of the dying because, assuming he died before Jesus’ public life, he died with Jesus and Mary close to him, the way we all would like to leave this earth.

Joseph is also patron of the universal Church, fathers, carpenters, and social justice.

We celebrate two feast days for Joseph: March 19 for Joseph the Husband of Mary and May 1 for Joseph the Worker.

Joseph was foster father to Jesus. There are many children separated from families and parents who need foster parents. Please consider contacting your local Catholic Charities or Division of Family Services about becoming a foster parent.

Here is historical background on what spurred the creation of International Workers Day — http://www.iww.org/history/library/misc/origins_of_mayday

There were protests around the globe in honor of International Workers Day.  You can look here to see which countries held protests.
