Archbishop Chaput of Philadelphia said“Catholics have a duty to respect legitimate authority and pray for our political leaders, whether we personally care for them or not. The Church seeks to cooperate with public officials because we’re a community of citizens as well as believers. “But there are limits, and the more that government mandates evil actions, the more likely civil disobedience becomes.”

I would go a bit further than the Archbishop did.  I believe it is our duty to follow our faith.  When civil law or mandates conflict with our faith such as in the case of the HHS mandate we have a duty, a moral obligation, to follow our Faith.  The HHS mandate propagates evil.  As followers of God we are called to combat evil and never cooperate with or advocate evil.  Killing innocent vulnerable life is probably the worst evil (that I can think of).

President Obama talked about religious freedom at the prayer breakfast but yet has his administration go after and try to force The Little Sisters of the Poor to violate their religion, violate their faith.  Archbishop Chaput said, “I think President Obama’s recent prayer breakfast comments about religious freedom were interesting but also curious, because in practice, the people who staff his administration have been the most tone deaf to religious liberty issues in recent memory. There’s a very odd disconnect in praising religious freedom while the Justice Department goes after the Little Sisters of the Poor.

“So yes, religious freedom is one of our core national ideals, and yes, it’s at risk from two sources: an unfriendly political class, and our own distracted attention and indifference.”

In my opinion the disconnect is alarming.  His actions and the actions of his administration do not comport with his words at the prayer breakfast.  Unless his words are an act and is deceiving people.  Kind of like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide.

Let us continue to pray for the conversion of souls.  God Bless.

Is the U.S. going to war with Syria?  If we do war is very ugly.  Should we be going to war and bombing a country when there are no good guys fighting?  There are the rebels on one hand and Assad’s military on the other hand. The choice is between people who are very, very bad and people who are horrible.  Should we be getting mixed up in a Syrian civil war?  Is it really America’s business to get involved?

I don’t think we have any business going to war in Syria.  As much as I am concerned for the welfare of the innocents who aren’t fighting and simply want peace I don’t think the United States government has any standing to get involved in a Syrian civil war.  But Syria is the gateway for Iran attacking Israel.  So maybe limited strikes is the best of bad options in fighting Syria to aid Israel in her defense?  I do think the Catholic Church as well as other churches and Christian missions should get involved.  There has to be a variety of ways that churches and organizations can help Christians and others in Syria who are being persecuted, threatened, and harmed,

Now onto the one good item. Pope Francis has called for a day of prayer and fasting for peace on September 7.

“I appeal strongly for peace, an appeal which arises from the deep within me,” he said to the crowds in St. Peter’s Square on Sept. 1.

“There are so many conflicts in this world which cause me great suffering and worry, but in these days my heart is deeply wounded in particular by what is happening in Syria and anguished by the dramatic developments which are looming,” continued the Pope.

“For this reason, brothers and sisters, I have decided to call for a vigil for the whole Church,” he announced.

It will be “a day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria, in the Middle East, and throughout world.”

The vigil will take place on Sept. 7, the vigil of the birth of Mary, Queen of Peace. Those who can will gather in St. Peter’s Square from 7 p.m. until midnight: other local Churches are requested to join in the fasting and prayer by gathering together.

Prayer is the answer.  God is the answer.  Let us all take time out of our busy schedules on September 7 to pray for peace in Syria and around the globe.  God Bless.

The trustees have chosen a new president to succeed Fr. Terence Henry at Franciscan University of Steubenville.  His name is Father Sean Sheridan.  He has a strong legal background which will help in the fight against the unjust HHS mandate which does not respect conscience rights or citizens’ religious liberty.

“I am honored to serve as the next president of Franciscan University,” Father Sheridan said in a statement. “It is inspiring and truly humbling for me to be here at Franciscan University with the students who are pouring their hearts into their education and their prayer life, falling in love with God and the Church and striving to become saints.”

Here is a little bit about Father Sheridan’s credentials:

Father Sheridan entered the Franciscan Third Order Regular in 2000, leaving behind a career as an attorney focused on health-care litigation. He made his solemn profession of vows in 2005 and was ordained to the priesthood the following year. Father Sheridan continued his legal education in the Church, earning a doctorate in canon law from Catholic University of America in 2009. He wrote his dissertation addressing seven challenges — and potential solutions — to implementing Ex Corde Ecclesiae (From the Heart of the Church), Pope John Paul II’s 1992 apostolic constitution for Catholic higher education.

Father Sheridan served as an assistant professor of canon law at CUA from 2009 until last fall, when he became a professor in Franciscan University’s theology department.

“He’s got the right mix of academic, pastoral and professional experience,” Hernon said. “He’s got the mission of the university in his heart, and he wears it on his sleeve. We know he’s going to continue to see how the university can respond to the call St. Francis received from Christ, to ‘Go, rebuild my Church.’”

We have a story of authentic courage of someone who has stuck by their beliefs even among pressure in these ever changing times of what our culture deems as acceptable.  Chris Broussard is the ESPN analyst who was asked to comment on on the NBA basketball player Jason Collins who announced that he is gay for all the world to hear.  Broussard said that homosexuality is a sin. He went onto say:

“If you’re openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever that may be,” including heterosexual sex outside of marriage, you are “walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ.”

Instead of being respectful and tolerant of his point of view some people have taken to twitter to call for ESPN to fire Chris Broussard.

It looks like the Southern Poverty Law Center has some explaining to do.  It appears that the SPLC influenced a domestic terrorist attack by labeling the Family Research Council as a “hate” group.  Seeing this information on the SPLC’s website spurred Floyd Lee Corkins to shoot at innocent workers at the Washington-based Family Research Center. Corkins has pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic terrorism and will be charged in June. Lives were spared as a result of the heroic actions of Leonardo Johnson, the security guard/building manager.

Apparently religious freedom for Christians in the military will not be tolerated.  Here our military men and women are fighting to protect our freedoms which are outlined in the Constitution and yet their rights won’t be protected while serving.  Geesh! This is disgraceful. Totally unconscionable!

From ChristianPost:

President Obama’s new “religious tolerance” consultant to the Pentagon, Mikey Weinstein, wants Christian military service members who openly talk about their faith in uniform to be charged with treason, which is a crime punishable by death according to military law.

By employing his consulting services, and as Commander-in-Chief, President Obama is effectively endorsing Weinstein’s recently voiced and written views such as: “Today, we face incredibly well-funded gangs of fundamentalist Christian monsters who terrorize their fellow Americans by forcing their weaponized [sic] and twisted version of Christianity upon their helpless subordinates in our nation’s armed forces.”

President Obama is someone who claims that he is a Christian.  If he is a Christian why would he employ a “religious tolerant” consultant that calls Christians “monsters who terrorize their fellow Americans”?  By “fundamentalist” does Weinstein mean, actually follows the Bible and adheres to timeless biblical truths?  So I guess he thinks modernism and moral relativism “true Christianity”?  This administration has been the most hostile to Christians (traditional Christians) in recent modern history.  This is not only intolerance but is persecutory in nature. And some people wonder why we a number of say that Obama is shredding the Constitution. It is obvious that he has no respect for the Constitution or citizens’ rights.  He acts as if he were king.  I do pray for his conversion of heart and soul.

Israeli President Shimon Perez has invited Pope Francis to visit Israel.  Pope Francis has accepted the invitation “with willingness and joy” .  No date has been set for the visit.

A Vatican statement said they discussed prospects for a resumption of negotiations for a solution that would respect “the legitimate aspirations of the two Peoples, thus decisively contributing to the peace and stability of the region.”

It wasn’t reported until recently, but about a month ago Muslims attacked Christians at St. Mark Cathedral in Egypt after a funeral Mass.  How dare Muslims show such utter disrespect during a most Holy occasion as a funeral Mass. The persecution and slaying of Christians breaks my heart.  The worldwide Islamization and the intolerance, persecution, and killing of people who believe in other faiths by Muslims has got to stop.  And Western governments thought Mubarek was bad?  Now there is a president in Egypt, Morsi, who is apart of the Muslim Brotherhood.  The attacks have progressively gotten worse. The U.S. government needs to stop giving Egypt aid of any kind, especially money.  The West should not have messed in the internal affairs of Egypt’s government because now we have a much bigger mess on our hands.  My prayers go out to all the Christians’ safety as they struggle while living in a hostile environment.

Coptic Christians attending a funeral service Sunday for four Copts killed two days earlier in an anti-Christian rampage were in turn attacked themselves by at least 200 Muslim rioters.

The incident, which started with a few dozen men pelting the mourners with stones, quickly escalated into a massive attack against Christians at St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in the Abbassia area of Cairo involving firearms, flash-bang grenades, tear gas, fire bombs and other improvised weapons, besides cars set ablaze.

A Morning Star News reporter observed that police took more than an hour to respond, and when they arrived, they did nothing to stop the attack. Instead, most stood and watched men throw rocks at the Christians gathered at the gates of the cathedral compound or hurl stones over walls at the Christians trapped inside.

From the Catholic Herald:

Hundreds of Egyptian Christians were besieged inside Cairo’s Coptic cathedral last night after a mob, reportedly with the help of security forces, launched an attack on worshippers.

One person died and 84 were injured during the attack, which began after a funeral mass for five Copts who were killed in sectarian violence on Saturday, in which a Muslim man also died.

Wael Eskandar, an Egyptian blogger at the funeral, said he saw people being showered with broken bottles from the roof of a block of flats. After being attacked, he said, the people “started racing out of the side street and destroying the nearby cars”.

Here is another video which shows Christians being attacked as police stand by.

Pro-Life activists were peacefully praying the rosary for the repeal of Obamacare when a Pro-Obamacare activist knocked over the U.S. flag and then attacked the volunteers from Tradition Family and Property (TFP).

The group had been passing out flyers describing ObamaCare as a form of Christian persecution, forcing Catholics and other Christians to subsidize abortifacient contraception. They also held pro-life signs.

It looks like TFP has had previous encounters of a similar nature from “tolerant” Obamacare supporters.   Why is it that so many on the Left act out like juvenile delinquents when they come in contact with person/s who have different beliefs or opinions than their own?  You don’t see people on the Right acting like that.

Why would the Obama administration do this?  Well, they are attacking our religious freedom with the HHS mandate and have done other things to attack the Catholic Church and traditional Christianity so… this administration obviously doesn’t think too much of people’s right to religious freedom here in the USA so why would they care about other countries right to religious freedom?  Or whether they’re being persecuted or not? Is this an attempt to hide the fact that the “Arab Spring” has led to widespread persecution of Christians by Muslims?  Another coverup? Time and time again Pres. Obama has shown that he favors Muslims over Christians.  This is yet one more example of that.  Here you can get some insight into Pres. Obama’s faith and to the reason why he favors Muslims over Christians.

From (CNSNews.com) – The U.S. State Department removed the sections covering religious freedom from the Country Reports on Human Rights that it released on May 24, three months past the statutory deadline Congress set for the release of these reports.

The new human rights reports–purged of the sections that discuss the status of religious freedom in each of the countries covered–are also the human rights reports that include the period that covered the Arab Spring and its aftermath.

Thus, the reports do not provide in-depth coverage of what has happened to Christians and other religious minorities in predominantly Muslim countries in the Middle East that saw the rise of revolutionary movements in 2011 in which Islamist forces played an instrumental role.

For the first time ever, the State Department simply eliminated the section of religious freedom in its reports covering 2011 and instead referred the public to the 2010 International Religious Freedom Report – a full two years behind the times – or to the annual report of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), which was released last September and covers events in 2010 but not 2011.

Leonard Leo, who recently completed a term as chairman of the USCIRF, says that removing the sections on religious freedom from the State Department’s Country Reports on Human Rights is a bad idea.

Since 1998, when Congress created USCIRF, the State Department has been required to issue a separate yearly report specifically on International Religious Freedom.

But a section reporting on religious freedom has also always been included in the State Department’s legally required annual country-by-country reports on human rights–that is, until now.  More Here
